We made it and had an amazing time!
Day 1 Highlights
We arrived! Our first stop was lunch at the Pirate House where we were greeted by…Pirates! We then walked to catch a ride on an Historic Trolley Tour which brought us through all the main squares and landmarks of Historic Savannah.
Day 2 Highlights
Walking Tour (Wow! There are LOTS of squares), tour of Juliette Gordon Lowe’s Birthplace and the 1st Headquarters for the Girl Scouts….and an amazing dinner at Aunt Amy’s! One of the biggest highlights of the day was our pinning ceremony. The girls gathered together and, as they received their commemorative pin, they shared a special memory or thought about being part of the troop. The general theme was their appreciation for each other!
Day 3 Highlights
Today we enjoyed the a whole day on Tybee Island. We started the day with Rowan, a naturalist from the Tybee Island Science Center. Ri and he provided educational tours through a local marsh, the Science Center and the beach front. Ask the girls about the size of the Leatherback turtle that nested on the beach a couple of years ago.
After the tour, we enjoyed beach time! We ended the day at the Crab Shack. We ordered a sampler platter with shrimp, crawfish, crab, mussels, boiled potatoes and sausage. Several girls who had never had seafood in the past gave it a try!
Day 4 Highlights
What a special last day in Savannah! We started the day at Old Fort Jackson where the girls learned about Savannah during the Revolutionary War, War of 1812 and Civil War. Some of the girls even got to shoot of a cannon and boy were they fast….ish. After the fort, we returned to historic Savannah and enjoyed a delightful lunch at the Gryphon Tea Room and then an afternoon of shopping along the River Walk. The afternoon ended with a tour of the Savannah Candy Kitchen (ask them about the Tabasco taffy).
We enjoyed a picnic dinner from Zunzi’s in Wright Square and then toured all the local haunts for the ghosts of Savannah.
This was an amazing and highly memorable experience for all of us. Thank you to you parents for sharing your girls, the girls for being responsible and GAME to try everything and to our leaders, Mrs. Sveum and Mrs. Lazarski for all the planning and prep work to make it so unbelievably special.
Hey girls – PEANUT BUTTER!
